Job Overview

The Membership Sales Manager (MSM) is a highly-motivated, hands-on and innovative sales leader excited by our vision. The MSM will support the Director of Membership and Growth in implementing the membership growth objectives within the corporate strategy, focusing on member retention and growth of membership numbers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the sales team, planning and implementing the activities required to achieve the membership revenue growth outlined in the corporate strategy.
  • Ensure new member acquisition and retention goals are achieved within budget.
  • Inform a proactive, data-driven commercial strategy, delivered through a motivated team of sales professionals with defined and monitored targets.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service across all aspects of AELP to build member satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Use customer insight and experience to identify sales opportunities and influence product development and marketing.
  • Proactively feedback to the Director of Membership and Growth to ensure that the products we provide are in-line with the customers' needs.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with a range of external stakeholders.
  • Provide timely reports to the SMT identifying key themes and opportunities that could impact on the profitability of the organisation.
  • Work closely with the marketing team to deliver the successful launch of new products and services to our members.
  • Manage the development and delivery of customer facing network meetings, ensuring the content and quality meets the expectations of our customers.
  • Work with Marketing to ensure the sales team are sufficiently represented at all national events.
  • Manage the travel and subsistence budget for team.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience

  • Positive track record of leading, developing and motivating individuals and teams to deliver.
  • 3+ years’ experience at a senior level within an education sales function.
  • Experience of leading successful change programmes in a complex, customer/sales facing organisation.
  • Proven track record in working in B2B and ideally within membership services.
  • Understanding of sales in an education and skills setting.
  • Understanding of how to drive performance from key accounts, and develop new relationships.
  • In depth understanding of how to manage and deliver products and services into the education sector.
  • Commercially astute, with proven strategic planning and operational delivery expertise.

  • Ability to manage service delivery activities, leading on a collaborative approach and drawing on cross functional input.
  • Numerate with the ability to analyse and interpret member data and performance.
  • Proven ability to think strategically and to provide clear, balanced and challenging input across a range of issues.
  • Significant ability to analyse complex information, situations and issues and deploy highly developed and innovative customer insight skills.
  • Demonstrates and promotes leadership behaviours and enables and develops the skills and talents of others.
  • Organisational and performance management skills with the ability to prioritise, develop long-term plans and deliver to deadlines with and through teams.

  • The ability to persuade others to buy into your plans and take actions you wish them to take.
  • Full and clean driving licence.
