16-19 Special Interest Group

We are launching a Special Interest Group (SIG) focused on 16-19, with the first meeting scheduled for 30 April from 10-11 am. We’d love to invite you to be part of it!

Who: Senior Management / Management roles

Why: The Volume of 16-19 provision delivered by AELP members has continued to grow by both funding value and learner numbers over recent years. AELP members (all member type organisations) are funded to deliver approximately £200 million of 16-19 education for the 2024/25 academic year through direct contracts. AELP also knows that there is additional activity in the 16-19 space delivered under subcontracted arrangements, meaning that AELP members are having a significant impact on the 16-19 education sector and supporting a large volume of young people to achieve successful outcomes.

Therefore, as volumes increase, AELP recognises that support is required to help members navigate a suite of different funding regulations alongside an enhanced focus on 16-19 policy as a whole. The special interest group will focus on the key 16-19 challenges experienced by the sector, the success and impact of already present innovative practice and help to support the work of AELP as we attempt to shape and influence future policy.

Facilitated by Paul Stannard,  AELP's new senior policy manager. Paul brings nearly 20 years of sector experience working across varying roles in the post-16 sector, working his way up from Sports Lecturer to Vice Principal. Paul has led on 16-19 education programmes for young people, adult education programmes, English and maths, subcontracting and compliance, quality, high needs funding and most recently, apprenticeships.

We look forward to welcoming you to the new 16-19 special interest group from April 2025.
