Overview
Find out about financial support for apprentices who have been in local authority care, and payments to their training providers and employers.
Understand how to fulfil training provider responsibilities as set out in the funding rules, resolve uncertainties about eligibility and the claiming process.
Objectives
This webinar will help delegates to:
- Understand care leaver participation in apprenticeships and the scale of bursary underclaiming;
- Understand eligibility for the apprenticeships care leavers’ bursary;
- Fulfill training providers’ responsibilities and role in facilitating bursary payments from DfE/ESFA and to the apprentice;
- Claim additional payments for training providers and employers.

Webinar Chair
Cheryl Swales, Head of Strategic Projects, AELP
Cheryl joined AELP in December 2015 as a home-based Project Manager. Cheryl has held various roles within the organisation but more recently moved into the Policy, Projects and Comms Team as Head of Strategic Projects.
Cheryl holds various qualifications relevant to the sector including a BA (Hons) in Education Studies, a Foundation Degree in Work-based Learning , a Level 4 in Project Management and she is also a qualified tutor, assessor and internal quality assurer.

Paul Russell, Policy Advisor, Department for Education
Paul works on policies to support people who are disadvantaged into, and through, education and skills programmes. He has previously specialised on apprenticeships, and skills to support people into work.

Guest Speaker
Toni McClelland-Couchman, Digital Marketing and Events Officer, Catch 22
Toni is the Digital Marketing and Events Officer for NLCBF (National Leaving Care Benchmarking Forum). She Chairs and Co-leads the Care X Apprentice Network, created by YPBMF (Young People’s Benchmarking Forum) to promote and give a voice to care experienced apprentices. Toni herself is care experienced and has completed two apprenticeships previously.
