- Some common issues identified from recent ESFA Funding Assurance Reviews.
Target Audience
This session will be of interest to Directors of Finance and MIS Managers at providers who are in receipt of ESFA Funding and who are therefore in-scope for an ESFA Funding Assurance Review.

Lisa Smith, Risk Assurance Director, RSM
Lisa specialises in internal audit, funding assurance, risk management and governance services to education clients. She has been the project manager for the funding work undertaken by RSM on behalf of the ESFA for the last four years, ensuring that the right level of resources are allocated, liaising with the ESFA and ensuring that all timescales for the submission of opinions and reports are met. Lisa is the lead manager for our Further Education National Funding Team, ensuring that all team members understand the technical requirements of funding assurance engagements, and she provides advice and guidance to our clients on funding related issues.
Emma Gipson, Manager, RSM
Following over 10 years working for RSM, in 2015 Emma moved to work with a large general FE College as their Head of College Information Services. Whilst there she oversaw the college data, reporting and exams functions. She also worked on and managed projects including those in relation to Ofsted inspection, merger preparations, college wide restructures and implementation of new software systems.
Emma has since returned to RSM and now acts as internal audit manager for a number of clients. She is also a lead manager in our Further Education funding team undertaking and leading funding audits for clients and on behalf of the Education and Skills Funding Agency.
Emma also conducts reviews on behalf of organisations looking at potential funding irregularities, particularly with regards to partner providers.
