Code of Good Governance for Independent Training Providers

Updated April 2024

Independent Training Providers (ITPs) play a vital role in the UK's skills delivery system, offering learners and apprentices exceptional learning and training experiences. Each year, ITPs are entrusted with billions of pounds in public funds to ensure high-quality services for learners. As most of the UK apprenticeship programme is delivered by ITPs, strong governance is essential to maintain trust and reputation across the entire programme.

This document outlines the key principles for effective governance for ITPs. In light of the recently published ITP Financial Handbook, adhering to this code provides a valuable framework for ITPs to manage their financial affairs responsibly and transparently.

Please note: While this document was originally published in September 2018, it has been revised to reflect best practices in 2024.
